Why host a screening?

Film is a great tool for organizing and mobilizing a movement for action. By hosting this screening and discussion, you’ll be helping recruit and energize lots of new people to raise awareness and inspire action.

Hosting is simple

All you need to do is pick a place, time and date, make sure you’ve got the equipment you need to screen the movie, reserve a couple of hours, and spread the word! You could also co-host a screening and invite local leaders to co-lead the discussion after the film if you wish.

Suggested schedule

The whole event should take about 2 to 2.5 hours. Here’s a sample schedule:

  • 7 PM - Doors open. Give people time to arrive and settle, say 10 minutes.
  • 7:10 - Introduce the film.
  • 7:15 – Start the movie! It’s 55 minutes long.
  • 8:10 - Suggest a 10-minute break to grab snacks or use the bathroom.
  • 8:20 – Discuss the movie for 45 minutes.

Who to invite

You can of course invite everyone! Family, friends, neighbors — anyone you feel should see the film. To expand your reach, invite representatives from diverse community groups so many points of view are included and a well-rounded conversation can take place.

Consider asking everyone to bring some finger food and BYOB.

Finding a Venue

The simplest is to host a screening at your home. If you’d prefer another place, or you want to have a larger group, possible venues include schools, churches, libraries and community centres. Any place people can get together, watch and discuss can be a screening venue.

Leading a discussion

The film will inspire conversation but having someone facilitate discussion can help focus the group and identify actions people can easily engage in.

It’s a good idea to have one person take notes and collect contact information so the group can stay in touch after the screening.

Before the discussion ends, We recommend offering your guests a list of easy, specific actions they can take in your community.

Download our hosting package to get all of the information and resources on this page, plus more suggestions, tips, and checklists about hosting a discussion.

Let's do this!

We see these screenings as an opportunity to generate energy & excitement around the growing climate action movement. More important, we hope to give people concrete ways that they can be part of it. You can find information about volunteer and organizing opportunities in the film and on our Web site.

Thank you for stepping up to host a screening in your community!

Can I just watch the movie?
You're welcome to watch the movie on your own :-) But we're really hoping you'll join with others in your community to build a stronger movement!
